Osteoporosis Symptoms

The early stages of osteoporosis normally have no symptoms making it a very silent disease. One may not know it but the bone has already been weakened and eventually will turn brittle. Once symptoms manifest, it is often at later stages when much damage has been done to the body.  If possible, it’s always best to prevent osteoporosis from happening in the first place.

Among the more common symptoms of osteoporosis are:

  • Pain and tenderness of the bone
  • Fractures despite little or no trauma
  • Back pain, often very severe, due to fractures or collapse in the vertebra
  • Loss of height up to six inches over time
  • Neck pain due to spinal bone fracture
  • Kyphosis (backward deviation of the spine) or stooped posture with associated dowager’s hump on the back
